After much speculation, Warner Bros. is finally moving forward with a new Wonder Woman film, and the DCU is bringing in one of its breakout writers. Ana Nogueira, already trusted with Supergirl and Teen Titans, will now reinvent Diana for a new era. While Gal Gadot’s legacy looms large, the hunt for the next Wonder Woman—and her big-screen debut—is now officially underway.
Momentum is building for DC Studios’ fresh take on Wonder Woman as Warner Bros. accelerates plans for a feature reboot and reveals its new screenwriter. Part of the iconic Trinity with Superman and Batman, Wonder Woman has always been central to DC Comics and the cinematic universe’s roadmap. Although the original 2023 “Gods and Monsters” lineup included only a TV prequel, Paradise Lost, a big-budget film reboot is now firmly in the works.
Variety confirms Ana Nogueira will script the upcoming Wonder Woman movie. Already a trusted hand at DC Studios, Nogueira is writing both Supergirl and Teen Titans—in addition to her stage work (Empathitrax, Which Way to the Stage) and appearances on The Blacklist, The Vampire Diaries, and Hightown. Now tasked with reimagining Wonder Woman less than a decade after Gal Gadot brought the character to life in Batman v Superman, Nogueira’s vision will set the tone for Diana’s future.
The first Wonder Woman film (2017) was a rare home run for the DCEU—Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot delivered both critical acclaim and box office gold. However, the sequel Wonder Woman 1984 landed with a thud, and by December 2022, Jenkins confirmed DCU bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran had officially canceled Wonder Woman 3. Although Gadot teased a possible return, all signs now point to a fresh face taking over the iconic role.
Wonder Woman’s Central Role in the Future of the DCU
No official release date has been set for the new Wonder Woman movie. DC Studios aims to launch two films a year, so the earliest Diana might soar back onto screens is 2027—currently, Warner Bros. has no DCU movies on the calendar for that year. The studio appears to be making Wonder Woman a top priority, but as James Gunn has made clear, no project starts filming until a finished, consensus-approved script is ready. Casting and a director are likely still a way off.
DC Studios is doubling down on the Trinity: Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Diana gets her solo film and the Paradise Lost prequel for HBO Max, with Circe taking center stage in Creature Commandos. Supergirl follows Superman, while Peacemaker Season 2 continues the DCU’s recent hot streak. Batman will headline The Brave and the Bold and see a Clayface project, while Robin is rumored to lead Teen Titans. With Nogueira already shaping both the Superman and Batman corners, she’s quickly becoming a driving force behind the new DCU.
