Indiana Jones Pushes Xbox to New Heights: MachineGames Celebrates a Record-Breaking Year!

It’s not all doom and gloom for Xbox Studios. In fact, the team behind Indiana Jones just enjoyed a historic year: Indy is driving the wagon, and MachineGames has the numbers to prove it.

While layoffs have made headlines at Xbox recently—even after Microsoft launched major 2024 titles like Hellblade II, STALKER 2, Age of Mythology: Retold, its first Call of Duty (Black Ops 6), plus new expansions for World of Warcraft and Diablo IV—some studios are thriving despite the challenges. The most obvious example is Obsidian, which shipped Avowed this year and already has Grounded 2 and The Outer Worlds 2 lined up, but they’re not alone.

Perhaps the most critically acclaimed game of 2024 was Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Considered by many to be a contender for Game of the Year, it’s also been a huge financial win for MachineGames. The studio’s newly published financial report shows that, after earning SEK 250.83 million (about €22.4 million) in revenue and SEK 34.24 million (just over €3 million) in profit in the previous fiscal year, those figures have now soared to SEK 428.48 million and SEK 213.92 million (€38.2 million and €19.1 million) respectively. Xbox has other metrics worth noting too, such as Game Pass play hours, even if those aren’t directly reflected in MachineGames’ revenue.

Clearly, the big driver here is the late 2024 release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. MachineGames’ 2024 fiscal year spanned from mid-2024 through June of this year, so it also includes several months of sales from the PS5 launch, where the game remained a top seller for quite some time.

And the partnership between MachineGames and Indiana Jones doesn’t stop there: this summer, it was announced that the Order of Giants DLC will arrive on September 4. This expansion will deepen The Great Circle’s story, adding new environments, puzzles, and enemies.
