1047 Games admitted that they launched the game too early and announced that it will be relaunched at a later date.
The studio, which is behind both Splitgate and Splitgate 2, had a co-founder who boldly stated at Summer Game Fest 2025 that Splitgate 2 would make the FPS genre great again. However, the studio has now admitted that Splitgate 2 was released too early. They announced that the game will undergo a massive overhaul before being relaunched sometime in early 2026. Several members of the development team are being laid off, and the original Splitgate servers will be shut down next month. Splitgate 2 officially launched on June 6 on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. While it will remain playable and receive the upcoming Chapter 3 update, the studio has effectively announced that it is canceling the game’s launch and returning it to beta.
According to reports, 45 people will lose their jobs at 1047 Games. To minimize the impact of the layoffs, the original Splitgate servers will be shut down in a month. 1047 Games says that, although they would love to keep these servers online, they have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past few years, so they need to prioritize their team. However, the studio is exploring the possibility of creating an offline mode and/or peer-to-peer (P2P) matches so dedicated fans of the original Splitgate game can continue playing it after the shutdown. The studio promises to deliver a dedicated experience in Splitgate 2 that will fulfill its original promise when the game relaunches in 2026.
To the Splitgate community,
We believe in Splitgate 2. This game means everything to us – it’s been our life for almost 10 years, starting in our dorm room, and we’re more committed than ever to delivering the incredible experience you deserve.
We’ve heard your feedback, and we…

After launching with all the confidence in the world, it’s clear that 1047 Games got it very wrong with Splitgate 2, which officially launched last month. Gamers knew it without the studio’s co-founders having to admit it. Many questions remain about the upcoming changes, how the game will continue to be playable, whether it will run as Splitgate 2 – Open Beta on consoles and PC, and when the original Splitgate servers will be shut down.
It will be interesting to see if audiences wait for 1047 Games to make the FPS great again by the time the studio relaunches the game next year, and if anyone will care that the game is returning.
