This Upcoming PS5 Update Could Be Great News for Many DualSense Users!

PlayStation has revealed a game-changing firmware update for the PS5, but only a handful of lucky players in select regions will get to try it out first. This new rollout will dramatically shake up how DualSense controllers work across all your devices—and there’s also a surprise eco-friendly feature in the pipeline as part of Sony’s global initiative.

The official PlayStation blog confirms the beta update goes live July 24, but at first, only gamers in the United States, Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany, and France will get a taste of the fresh features. Sony promises a wider release for the rest of the world soon.

While the update may bring the usual stability and performance tweaks, all eyes are on the new DualSense capability. “With this update, you’ll be able to register up to four devices at once and swap between them directly from your controller,” Sony says. “So you can game on PS5, PC, or even your smartphone with total freedom—no more constant reconnecting.”

One More Surprise on the Way: Power Saver Mode

Beta testers will spot a new Power Saver option in the console’s settings, but it won’t activate until the full release. “Once officially launched, supported PS5 games will be able to reduce performance so your console uses less energy if you turn on Power Saver. If left off or unsupported, performance and power draw stay the same.”

Power Saver ties into Sony’s long-term ‘Road to Zero’ plan, targeting net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. Sony promises more details as the worldwide launch approaches, but for now, the exact date is under wraps.
