Recent data from Circana (formerly the NPD Group) in the United States shows that Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy is paying off.
Some Microsoft fans have strongly criticized the company for releasing Xbox-exclusive games on rival platforms, such as PlayStation and Nintendo. This has exacerbated the decline in Xbox hardware sales, but the change in strategy seems to be paying off for the Redmond tech giant. Microsoft dominated PlayStation’s top 10 list in the United States in the second quarter of 2025 with six games. One could argue that Microsoft’s revenue from PlayStation and Nintendo platforms essentially covers the revenue lost from making these games available on Xbox Game Pass, making the multiplatform transition much more attractive.
The top ten best-selling games on PlayStation platforms in Q2 2025 are listed below, along with their sales ranking in US dollars and the reporting period: April 6 – July 5 (publisher and previous quarter position in parentheses):
1. Elden Ring Nightreign (Bandai Namco Entertainment, new entry)
2. Forza Horizon 5 (Microsoft, new entry)
3. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Remastered (Microsoft, new entry)
4. MLB: The Show 25 (Sony, 2.)
5. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (Microsoft, 4.)
6. DOOM: The Dark Ages (Microsoft, new entry)
7. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (Sony, new entry)
8. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (Microsoft, new entry)
9. Minecraft (Microsoft, 13.)
10. Assassin’s Creed: Shadows (Ubisoft, 3.)
This is how June turned out:
1. Elden Ring: Nightreign (Bandai Namco Entertainment, 1.)
2. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (Sony, new entry)
3. Mario Kart World (Nintendo, new entry)
4. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (Microsoft, 5.)
5. Stellar Blade (Sony, 185.)
6. Forza Horizon 5 (Microsoft, 3.)

8. Minecraft (various publishers, 7.)
