Sony has stepped up its game by teaming up with the creative minds behind Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, investing big money in China’s next gaming blockbusters. The China Hero Project is expanding with fresh funding, new partners, and the goal of making the country’s next hit games global sensations.

Sony has doubled down on its commitment to China, sealing a partnership with the creators of Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake and Oblivion Remastered to help bring next-gen experiences to life. The Chinese gaming market is booming, especially since the phenomenon of Black Myth: Wukong. In response, Sony has entered into strategic agreements with more and more local studios to expand the PlayStation 5 lineup with high-quality Chinese titles for a worldwide audience.

Sony Focuses on China

At a conference in Shanghai, Sony announced the launch of the fourth phase of the China Hero Project, a program started in 2016 to support Chinese studios with funding, resources, and consultancy for developing AAA PlayStation games. This latest phase sees Sony making major investments in projects such as EXILEDGE and Daba: Land of Water Scar. In addition, a key new partner joins the mix: Virtuos, the team known for their work on Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake and Oblivion Remastered.

The PlayStation Studios Visual Arts team will also help with design and user experience, ensuring that every supported project is of top quality. The aim is for PlayStation to become the go-to platform for major Chinese releases, smoothing the way for these studios to succeed in the West through marketing, funding, and professional support.

Results are already showing: Lost Soul Aside, an ambitious hack-and-slash that has been in development for almost a decade, will launch at the end of this year—thanks in large part to Sony’s support. The plan is to keep the momentum going with more exciting action games, stories, and technical breakthroughs from China. The most recent major title is Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, which made waves on launch despite some technical issues.
