Metroid Prime 4: Beyond: It Will Be Playable at a Canadian Event!

Although Retro Studios and Nintendo’s game still does not have a concrete release date, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

Nintendo has confirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is coming by the end of 2025, and revealed that it will be playable at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto alongside other Nintendo Switch 2 games, including Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Street Fighter 6: Year 1–2 Fighters Edition, Hades II, Borderlands 4, and Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. The event will run from August 21 to 24 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, at the same time as Gamescom. For those who’ve been waiting eight long years since the 2017 announcement, this is excellent news.

The game’s tumultuous development history is well known: Nintendo originally assigned the project to Bandai Namco before returning it to Retro Studios, the team behind the previous three entries. Naturally, this affected the release date. Now, thanks to Nintendo’s latest confirmation and the South Korean rating board (GRAC), there’s every reason to believe Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t face another delay. That means an official release date announcement could arrive soon.

At the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal event, the Metroid Prime 4: Beyond demo was brief: it included the game’s intro and first boss fight. The demo started with Samus landing on the distant planet Tenmaar, in the middle of a fierce battle between Federation forces and space pirates. In this stage, the usual solitary mood gives way to explosive action and bustling chaos, as a greater conflict takes shape. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is unlikely to change most fans’ opinions about the series, but it’s shaping up to be the most technically flawless and playable entry so far.

Let’s hope Samus finally returns this year.
