Three new operations that plunge players into the waves of history, brand new ships, and exclusive rewards await in the August update of the naval game.

August 4, 2025Wargaming, the developer and publisher behind the historically accurate naval MMO World of Warships, is paying tribute to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II with its latest update. To mark the occasion, players will be able to dive into new operations, exclusive rewards, and unlockable ships—including the Tier VIII premium cruiser San Diego. In addition, players can begin building the Tier X premium destroyer USS Laffey in the Dockyard, and the rarity system is being extended to the Arsenal, completing a sea of new features for the game.

“For Tomorrow’s Sake”: New Operations Mark the End of World War II. Eighty years have passed since the war’s end, and three new operations will immerse players in the historical course of WWII. Each operation—Arctic Convoy, Tokyo Express, and Pacific Offensive—will be available for one week each during the first three weeks of the “For Tomorrow’s Sake” event, offering convoy escorts, secret raids, and assaults on fortified enemy installations for up to seven players. To assist, the Tier VI French cruiser La Galissonnière and Tier VIII American cruiser Cleveland will be available as rental ships.

After the first three weeks, all new operations will return for a final week with lighter restrictions. Completing operation tasks rewards players with stars, advancing their progress in a special narrative campaign, unlocking elements of the new “‘39–‘45 Chronicles” collection, and earning various rewards—including a unique skin for the Tier IX American Iowa battleship commemorating the end of WWII, a new underwater explosion effect, and Commander Robert Adams. Throughout the event, players can follow the journey of a remarkable ship in WWII—the ultimate reward for completing the event: the Tier VIII American premium cruiser San Diego.

“The Ship That Would Not Die” Joins the Dockyard: The Tier X premium destroyer USS Laffey can now be built in 20 construction phases. Known for her distinguished WWII service, including the Normandy landings and the Battle of Okinawa—surviving six kamikaze attacks and four direct bomb hits—the Laffey earned her nickname “The Ship That Would Not Die.”

In-game, the Laffey boasts 127mm guns that may lack raw firepower but excel at stealth tactics. The destroyer is also equipped with Enhanced AA Fire, Reinforced Specialized Repair Teams, short-range torpedoes, and a time-based smoke generator to offset her weaknesses.

The rarity system has been expanded to the Arsenal, with ships, camouflages, and destruction effects now color-coded by rarity for easier collection tracking. The Captain’s Log now uses the same system. The August update also brings two new flags and fresh rewards for the 31st season of Clan Battles.
