Black Phone 2 Ups the Stakes

MOVIE NEWS – Black Phone 2 has earned an R rating in the US for increased violence, bloodshed, drug use by teens, and strong language. This confirms the creators’ claims that the sequel to the hit original will go further—not just in brutality but in character development as well. Young protagonists Finn and Gwen (Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw) now face the challenges of growing up, until the spectral serial killer known as The Grabber (Ethan Hawke)—eliminated in the first movie—returns from beyond the grave, still holding a grudge.

The story of Black Phone 2 unfolds along the lines of hints dropped in the original. Gwen is plagued by dreams in which the black phone keeps ringing, and she has visions of three boys hunted by The Grabber at a winter camp. She convinces her brother Finn to go to the camp, where, during a sudden storm, they once again confront the nightmare—and uncover the Grabber’s connection to their family’s deepest secret.
