James Bond Reboot: A Superhero Star Steps Up for 007

MOVIE NEWS – Amazon’s highly anticipated James Bond reboot is progressing far smoother than anyone expected after the studio and streamer took over the iconic franchise. With Dune’s Denis Villeneuve directing and Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight penning the script, fans are still waiting for the next 007’s identity. Now, a real-life superhero is officially in the running…

The current front-runners for James Bond are still Aaron Taylor-Johnson (28 Years Later), Theo James (The Gentlemen), and former Superman Henry Cavill. Rumors point to Amazon’s top three being Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Frankenstein), and Harris Dickinson (Babygirl, The King’s Man). Still, nothing is set in stone, especially now that Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf) has thrown his name in the ring, calling Bond “the pinnacle goal.”

Promoting the Prime Video action-thriller spin-off The Terminal List: Dark Wolf on Andy Cohen Live, Hopper was told he’s “shown up on lists for who should be the next James Bond.” Hopper replied: “The thing is, James Bond for any British actor is like the pinnacle goal, you know, so to even be in a list to be considered, I find that an honor in itself really, so yeah. If the call ever comes, I’ll have a conversation.”

Is Tom Hopper the Right Fit for 007?

Tom Hopper is best recognized as Luther Hargreeves (Number One) in Netflix’s offbeat superhero series The Umbrella Academy, leading the cast until the show wrapped last year. He’s also known for roles in Game of Thrones, Terminator: Dark Fate, Black Sails, and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

But is Hopper really Bond material? The English actor is no stranger to action, but at 6’4” he could easily become the UK’s answer to Jack Reacher. His next role might be the perfect Bond audition, as he joins Taylor Kitsch and Chris Pratt in The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, playing US Navy SEAL Lieutenant Raife Hastings, with Kitsch as Ben Edwards and Pratt as James Reece. The spin-off arrives on Prime Video August 27, 2025. Here’s the official synopsis:

“Co-created by The New York Times bestselling author of The Terminal List, Jack Carr, and Season One creator-showrunner David DiGilio, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is a prequel series with an origin story that follows ‘Ben Edwards’ (Taylor Kitsch) throughout his journey from the Navy SEALs to the clandestine side of CIA Special Operations. The series is an espionage thriller that explores the darker side of warfare and the human cost that comes with it. It also features Chris Pratt reprising his role as ‘James Reece.’”
