Talesworth Game Studio and DreadXP have announced a hand-drawn (!) black-and-white RPG aimed primarily at older players.
Inspired by old-school RPGs, The Secret of Weepstone is a hand-drawn, black-and-white dungeon crawler. Roll the dice as you battle menacing monsters, plunder treasure-stuffed halls and chests, and unearth long-buried secrets—a nostalgic return evoking classic ’70s and ’80s Dungeons & Dragons campaigns. The game blends Talesworth’s signature, imaginative design with a brooding dark-fantasy tone and the kind of storytelling you expect from DreadXP, all wrapped in a memorable visual style that brings the grim tale to life.
In the shadow of a crumbling, abandoned keep lies the forgotten village of Weepstone. Once thriving, it now withers in silence: fields lie barren, crops have failed, and fear grips the populace. Byron, Lord of Weepstone, is ill and bedridden, plagued by night terrors of unholy rites and unknowable powers. With no champions to call, common folk must face the unknown, confront the forces behind it, and uncover the secrets within the ruined walls. This is not a tale of heroes, but of those who do what they must to survive.
Rendered entirely in striking, hand-drawn black-and-white, The Secret of Weepstone is an atmospheric love letter to the tabletop adventures and art of the ’70s and ’80s. Level up your party, discover potent gear to aid in battle, survive deadly encounters, and grab every bit of loot you can. Will the dice land in your favor? Lead a mismatched party of unlikely adventurers toward near-certain doom. Scrounge, steal, and make off with anything not nailed down to outfit your crew for what’s ahead.
The Secret of Weepstone is slated for PC in 2026. A playable demo will be available at PAX West from August 29 to September 1.
