According to one analyst, the new game from DICE and Electronic Arts has the potential to be the best in the franchise yet.
Battlefield 6 is shaping up to be one of the most popular games of the year, given the number of players on Steam. In its second week of beta testing, the game exceeded 400,000 concurrent players. Rhys Elliot, an analyst at Alinea Analytics, predicts that Battlefield 6 will reach one million pre-orders on Steam, having already surpassed 600,000.
Elliot shared important data from Alinea Analytics’ tracking of Battlefield 6 on Twitter. For example, the company believes the game has surpassed 605,000 pre-orders, and that Electronic Arts will earn $35 million in preliminary revenue. In an interview with Eurogamer, Elliot elaborated on his predictions, saying he believes pre-orders will exceed one million. He added that the game’s continued success will depend on EA’s ability to carry the momentum from the beta through launch and to stand out among other major shooters releasing around the same time (e.g., Borderlands 4).
#Battlefield6 is on track for a huge launch this year, if it can stick the landing.

“As we head into the fall, a lot more will be going on. As of right now, though, it’s on track to do extremely well—the best Battlefield has ever done. It’s important not to conflate Battlefield’s pre-launch success — even if it will be successful — with it being a ‘CoD killer.’ Battlefield 6 is making all the right moves with its massive maps, return to core classes, and destruction. However, it is also borrowing a lot from CoD. Call of Duty is in a creative lull and an identity crisis. It’s like Nikki Minaj shooting Beavis and Butthead while Snoop Dogg twerks in the background. It’s weird!
Still, it’s a cultural juggernaut with a massive casual audience that buys it on autopilot every year. They complain, but they still buy it, and those habits run deep. Battlefield 6 is undoubtedly winning over the hardcore first-person shooter (FPS) crowd, but CoD has market momentum with its yearly launches. Warzone serves as a big pool for cross-pollination marketing and a funnel into Black Ops. Call of Duty has the seasonal content treadmill it’s been running for years, with streamer partnerships. Whether Battlefield can keep up with that is unclear,” said Elliot.
He takes a more realistic view than Electronic Arts executives and believes that the target of 100 million players is unrealistic. He also does not believe that Electronic Arts’ return to the series will boot stomp Call of Duty. We’ll see how Battlefield 6 performs when it releases in October.
