Hangar 13’s prequel story, which we discussed a few days ago, has gotten off to a fairly decent start.
Mafia: The Old Country launched just a week ago on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, and according to data company Sensor Tower, the latest installment in the Hangar 13 franchise has already sold more than 800,000 copies in its debut week. This figure includes all platforms, though Sensor Tower noted that 48% of sales came from PlayStation 5: “The robust early sales underline the enduring appeal of the Mafia IP and validate the studio’s choice to deliver a linear, narrative-driven experience with cinematic presentation. The stronger performance on PlayStation may reflect the platform’s strategic alignment with story-focused, single-player games,” the firm wrote on LinkedIn.
Hangar 13 also shared additional statistics from the opening week. Players fired 600 million shots, collected more than 10 billion dinars, eliminated 185 million enemies, and used 17 million bandages for healing. According to the studio, this represented an excellent first week for Mafia: The Old Country.
The Family has been busy:

Mafiosi—thanks for the love and loyalty you’ve shown #MafiaTheOldCountry since launch.
Today, we’re excited to confirm 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞 is on its way! Expect some new activities and gameplay, arriving free for all players in the coming months. pic.twitter.com/FqJ3UU9brG

Overall, it’s a solid start, but the real test will be whether 2K (Take-Two) and Hangar 13 can sustain this momentum moving forward. The studio is already working on features requested by fans, having confirmed that Free Ride—allowing players to travel freely around the map—will arrive soon, along with new activities and gameplay features rolling out for free in the coming months.
Of course, a strong launch is only one part of the equation. Although Mafia: The Old Country isn’t a live service title, keeping player interest high over time will be critical, especially considering the underwhelming reception of Mafia III.
