Metal Gear Solid Delta: The Ultimate Test – Newcomer Reboot or Veteran Tribute?

How will we remember Metal Gear Solid 3? Konami believes that depends entirely on you—whether you’re a longtime fan or a fresh recruit. According to the franchise producer, the remake could serve as a full-on replacement for first-timers.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a defining classic—an espionage epic that masterfully blends survival, stealth, and narrative. The upcoming remake has sparked major anticipation, especially as it offers a chance to resurrect the franchise with reverence and care. With less than two weeks to go before the launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami is already reflecting on how this game will be remembered.

Noriaki Okamura, the game’s producer, told PC Gamer that MGS Delta could act as a full replacement for newcomers, while seasoned fans might view it as a complementary experience. For the latter, Konami released the original version in the Metal Gear Master Collection Vol.1, albeit with some technical issues, allowing players to choose between the polished remake and the nostalgic 2004 version.

“For new users unfamiliar with the Metal Gear Solid series, MGS Delta may feel more intuitive,” Okamura says (via Gamingbolt). “For longtime fans, the Master Collection version may prove superior. We want to leave that decision to the players.” He emphasizes that the updated visuals and modern controls of the remake could make it more appealing for newcomers. Meanwhile, David Hayter, the voice of Snake, adds, “The original is still a bombshell,” seeing the remake as an enhancement, not a substitute.

What’s New in the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake?

Beyond the philosophical debate, Metal Gear Solid Delta will also introduce new features. One of the most talked-about is the online Fox Hunt mode, which won’t be available at launch. Instead, it’s scheduled for a late 2025 release and will not include crossplay, a move that has disappointed fans.

On the lighter side, players can expect the return of the quirky Snake vs Monkey minigame. However, its contents will vary by platform: PlayStation 5 and PC users will encounter the monkeys from Ape Escape, while Xbox Series X|S owners will be hunting for Bomberman.

Get ready—Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake officially launches on August 28!
