MOVIE NEWS – Something unusual is happening in the world of Downton Abbey: a grand-scale clearance sale. Until September 16, fans can bid on props and costumes from the show’s six seasons and two movies via the Bonhams auction website—and it’s not just hats, knick-knacks, or silver spoons on offer.
You can buy, for instance, Lady Mary Crawley’s wedding dress or the ultra-luxurious 1925 Sunbeam Saloon used by the wealthy Bentham family—one of the auction’s most coveted items. It’s expected to sell for the equivalent of 15–20 million HUF, given that only about 45 functioning units of this vehicle still exist. Collectors will also appreciate the wedding gown worn by Dame Maggie Smith as Violet Crawley, the iconic bell used in the castle’s ballroom, or even Mr. Cranson’s ornate silver pocket watch. Costume enthusiasts can also rejoice, as nearly all major wardrobe pieces are included—from aristocratic formalwear to the staff’s uniforms.
Bonhams emphasizes that all items have been preserved in pristine condition, and many are authentic vintage pieces rather than show reproductions—particularly the opulent jewelry.
All proceeds will go to charity, supporting foundations helping critically ill children.
