Cinder City: This MMO Shooter Recreates South Korea in Detail: Zombies, Skyscrapers, and Even NCSoft’s Offices!

Its open sci-fi world is described as a “real copy” of South Korea, where you can roam cities as if you were truly there. NCSoft’s MMO shooter Cinder City is coming in 2026, complete with a digital replica of the studio’s headquarters.

NCSoft’s upcoming MMO FPS, Cinder City, aims to stand out from similar titles with an ambitious approach to map design. Beyond zombie-slaying chaos and high-octane battles, the game will feature environments so detailed that players can explore lifelike versions of actual South Korean cities. These include a millimetric, almost scientific recreation of Seoul and Pangyo—right down to a playable replica of NCSoft’s own offices.

At Gamescom 2025, the South Korean team emphasized the sheer scale and precision of the Seoul map, designed to deliver an immersive experience. From ruined skyscrapers to collapsed highways, the post-apocalyptic landscape mirrors the real-world layout of the capital. James Bae, CEO of BigFire Games and development advisor at NCSoft, explained: “The buildings and roads are recreated identically, so if you ever travel to Seoul, you’ll be able to navigate the game just like in real life.”

The cities of Cinder City shape gameplay itself

The focus on accuracy extends beyond the capital. Pangyo, the second playable city at launch, will also mirror its real-life layout, with one quirky addition: NCSoft’s headquarters will appear as an explorable building. In a grimly humorous twist, the developers revealed that inside, “worker zombies with their names on a tag on their chests” will roam the office halls—a tongue-in-cheek nod to their own staff.

The cities aren’t just elaborate backdrops; they directly influence gameplay. Seoul’s vast boulevards allow for long-range firefights, while its dense interiors force players into frenzied, close-quarters clashes with the undead. Pangyo’s more fragmented urban design, on the other hand, encourages straightforward, less chaotic skirmishes. This duality between maps adds variety to the pacing, catering to both tactical planners and adrenaline-driven fighters. Players can even move between environments via helicopter, exploring streets and building interiors alike.

Launching in 2026, Cinder City aspires to carve out a unique space in the MMO shooter genre. By combining relentless action, hordes of zombies, and meticulously crafted digital cities, it promises an immersive and distinctive experience.
