Gears of War: Reloaded: Better Performance on PlayStation than Xbox! [VIDEO]

It’s amusing when a game once exclusive to Xbox runs better on PlayStation than on Microsoft’s own hardware.

On August 26, 2025, a PlayStation game launched on Xbox, and an Xbox title debuted on PlayStation. Gears of War Reloaded arrived on all current-generation platforms, including the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. An analysis by Digital Foundry (embedded below) confirmed what many suspected: PlayStation offers the best console experience for Gears of War. Specifically, the PlayStation 5 Pro delivers the strongest combination of visuals and performance at launch.

Right now, an issue with VRR (variable refresh rate) is limiting Xbox Series performance. In 60 FPS mode, however, the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S all provide rock-solid gameplay. Differences only emerge when aiming for 120 FPS. For the best mix of performance and graphics, the PlayStation 5 Pro is the clear choice.

The 60 FPS mode runs at 1620p resolution, upscaled to 4K, while the 120 Hz mode matches the 1440p resolution used in other consoles’ 60 FPS modes. The Coalition employs PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) instead of AMD’s FSR. While PSSR doesn’t always guarantee superiority, in Gears of War Reloaded it results in a sharper image. Combined with slightly higher pixel counts, the PS5 Pro’s output looks significantly better, making it the definitive console version.

Of course, PC still delivers the ultimate experience, and every console version remains sharp and enjoyable. Still, it’s somewhat ironic—and perhaps not surprising—that PlayStation has the edge here. Even if it’s just a technicality, the PlayStation 5 Pro proves the best console for Gears of War Reloaded, though not everyone will have such hardware at home.
