Resident Evil Requiem: Capcom Says It’ll Be a Rollercoaster Ride Like Never Before! [VIDEO]

According to game developer Capcom, Resident Evil 9 will offer an experience unlike anything seen before. Capcom won numerous awards at Gamescom.

The first public presentation of the latest installment in the survival horror franchise impressed both the press and fans, as evidenced by the numerous awards it received at Gamescom. During the event, Capcom provided more details about Resident Evil Requiem in several interviews. For example, in an interview with GamesRadar, director Nakanishi Koshi explained that the new game will offer a complete roller coaster experience thanks to the greater extremes of classic Resident Evil elements, such as horror, suspense, and action.

“The two recent titles, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Village, are more action-oriented in terms of their element mixture. Resident Evil Requiem is different. If I had to compare it to past titles, it’s more similar to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard or the Resident Evil 2 Remake. You could call it old-school Resident Evil, with exploration, backtracking, and so on. It features all the classic Resident Evil elements that fans know and love: combat, exploration, puzzle-solving, and resource management with a limited number of items. We’ve given it our own spin for the game atmosphere of Resident Evil Requiem.

In terms of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and the Resident Evil 2 Remake, I think they reflect the typical game design for this series. You can’t maintain maximum horror tension throughout the entire game because it’s exhausting. So, there needs to be a dynamic pacing curve where there’s a very tense, horrific sequence, followed by a release or catharsis, allowing you to calm down with slightly peaceful exploration or exciting combat. Then, we gradually bring you back up to the horror part of the curve.

Again, that’s standard practice for Resident Evil. The difference this time is that there’s a new system that I can’t quite explain yet. But, if you think of the tension and release as wavelengths of a curve, I want to increase the distance between them more than ever before, creating a roller coaster ride of different aspects of the series. I’m excited for people to understand what I mean,” Nakanishi said.

Resident Evil Requiem will be released on February 27 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. On PC, it will support path tracing and Nvidia DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, making it the first RE Engine title to do so.
