TECH NEWS – If you’re not particularly interested in the artificial intelligence features on Google’s smartphone, it’s worth reclaiming the extra memory.
The amount of RAM hasn’t changed from the Pixel 9 to the Pixel 10, but to maintain its lead in the AI race and speed up access to its relevant features, Google decided to allocate 3 GB of RAM to the Tensor TPU. This left just 9 GB available, which may not deliver the smoothest experience—especially if you want to keep multiple apps running in the background.
Having 12 GB of RAM on an Android phone provides a great deal of flexibility, boosting multitasking by allowing dozens of apps to run simultaneously while leaving enough memory for demanding programs like games to run without hiccups. On last year’s Pixel 9, AI tasks only used the device’s RAM when needed, which meant more memory for the OS but slower performance for AI-driven features, ultimately impacting the overall user experience.
Google had to make trade-offs with the Pixel 10, but if AI doesn’t interest you, you can disable it to unlock the full 12 GB instead of just 9 GB. To do this, head to Settings > Apps > All apps > Show system > AI Core, and disable it.
This will, however, slow down AI processes. If 12 GB on the Pixel 10 still feels insufficient, you can opt for the Pixel 10 Pro, which bumps RAM up to 16 GB—though at a higher price. It’s also advisable to choose the 256 GB storage variant, since it comes with UFS 4.0 technology, which is noticeably faster than the UFS 3.1 used in the 128 GB models.
