One of the most beloved Elder Scrolls games still hasn’t been remade, so one modder proposed a bold alternative: play it inside Elden Ring. InfernoPlus has built a reputation for turning crazy ideas into reality.
The modding community never sleeps, but few projects are as outrageous — or as promising — as those of InfernoPlus. Known for dropping Halo weapons into Dark Souls and turning it into a multiplayer shooter, the YouTuber isn’t ready to leave FromSoftware behind for his next endeavor.
This time, he’s aiming at one of the most modded franchises ever: The Elder Scrolls, specifically Morrowind, the series’ third entry and a longtime fan favorite. Released back in 2002, the game is clearly showing its age. Most creators would think about porting it into the Skyrim engine. InfernoPlus, however, decided on something far bolder: merging it with Elden Ring.
And to be clear, this isn’t just about sprinkling a few Morrowind weapons or NPCs into Elden Ring. His plan is far more ambitious: a full port of Morrowind into Elden Ring, with the latter serving as its engine. “My goal is to unite the world and lore of Morrowind with the combat of a Souls game,” he explains in a video detailing his progress.
So far, the results are impressive. The YouTuber showed just how complex the process is, starting originally with Dark Souls before switching to Elden Ring, as only it could handle Morrowind’s dense world. Currently, there are no quests or objectives. For now, the focus is on world integration: adjusting lighting, textures, models, and environments while implementing FromSoftware’s movement and combat mechanics. The result is a fascinating hybrid that feels nostalgic yet soaked in the Souls aesthetic.
Though still far from finished, InfernoPlus is already bracing for “Bethesda’s lawyers.” He stresses that the mod will require ownership of both games, ensuring nothing illegal is taking place. While many gameplay systems still need to be added, he’s already checked off one signature FromSoftware requirement: “I’ve been forced to change the normal swamps in Morrowind to poisonous swamps.”
