Multiplayer isn’t for everyone, but the developers behind The Witcher 4 have a roadmap that has fans arguing already. CD Projekt RED has revealed that future titles will include “online features,” and reminded players that Project Sirius is being built as a multiplayer experience.
CD Projekt RED is preparing a long-term slate of projects designed to keep players entertained for years. At the forefront is The Witcher IV, the studio’s most advanced project to date, alongside Cyberpunk 2, Project Sirius, and Project Hadar — not to mention possible titles that haven’t yet been unveiled. While the studio hasn’t laid out every detail of its release strategy, executives have made one point clear: online functionality isn’t off the table.
This was highlighted by CFO Piotr Nielubowicz during a recent investor meeting (via No1dogfecesconsumer on Reddit). Asked whether multiplayer would arrive at launch or later as additional content, Nielubowicz referred back to CD Projekt’s broader philosophy. “In line with our strategy, we plan to add online features to our future games. What we can confirm right now is that Project Sirius will be a multiplayer game.”
The announcement that Sirius will feature multiplayer isn’t shocking — the project has long been framed as “the Witcher multiplayer game.” What makes things interesting is the possibility that other upcoming titles may also include online systems.
Although CD Projekt hasn’t said outright that The Witcher IV will have online integration, fans quickly connected the dots, fueling debates on Reddit. Some users, like rickreckt, stressed that the comments don’t necessarily mean co-op gameplay. Games like Death Stranding and Elden Ring prove that online interaction can happen without players ever directly encountering each other. As Alastor3 put it: “Having multiplayer elements doesn’t mean much on its own. In Detroit Become Human, there’s technically a multiplayer element where you see the decisions other players made — that’s it. I’m not saying Witcher 4 will use that approach, but it doesn’t automatically mean co-op.”
Others speculated on how multiplayer could work in the Witcher universe. Srovium imagined “a separate realm filled with witchers where you and your friends could hunt monsters and complete quests together.” Riding_A_Rhino_ built on the idea, suggesting that “fallen players could create loot quests, where their deaths spawn monster hunts for others to complete.”
Meanwhile, JoeBidensProstate reminded fans that Cyberpunk 2077 once had a multiplayer project in development before CD Projekt scrapped it in 2022. After the game’s rocky launch, the studio chose to reallocate resources to fixing the core experience instead of developing an additional mode. Even so, the company’s recent comments make it clear: while details remain scarce, online connectivity is part of CD Projekt’s vision going forward.
