Major Upheaval Looms Over Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 — Fans Brace for the Worst

After months of turmoil surrounding the long-delayed RPG, the developers are now promising “major changes,” leaving fans fearful about the fate of Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2. The Chinese Room is reworking its approach and will reveal the details on September 17.

If you’ve been following the endless saga of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, you’ve no doubt heard of the latest fiasco. After locking in an October 21 release date, developer The Chinese Room shocked fans by announcing that two of the game’s six vampire clans would be locked behind paid DLC. That revelation infuriated the community, and the studio’s limp attempt at justification convinced no one. Under fire, they eventually pledged to find a solution. Now the studio has confirmed that “major changes” are underway—words that have stirred even more anxiety among players.

On the official Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 account on X, the developers wrote: “Hi. We’re making adjustments and will share the details on September 17th. Big changes take time, and we want to get this right. PS Store pre-orders will be refunded on September 8th. You’ll be able to pre-order the game again before the October 21st launch. Thank you for your patience; more information will be shared soon!”

Will the clans finally be included without extra cost?

The controversy stems from the decision to lock the Toreador and Lasombra clans—two of the franchise’s fan favorites—behind a paywall. Many believe the “adjustments” teased by The Chinese Room will amount to rolling back this plan and including both clans in the base edition. After all, the standard game already costs €59.99, while access to those two clans requires shelling out €89.99 for the premium version bundled with the contested DLC.

Others argue the promised “major changes” could extend beyond the DLC issue. With Bloodlines 2 having already suffered multiple delays, speculation is rife that the studio might postpone launch yet again, buying time to rethink parts of its business model if the DLC revenue stream disappears. Whatever the case, players won’t have to wait long—answers are due within days.
