Although the game’s publisher fears that the former Grand Theft Auto producer’s game could jeopardize future publishing plans, Build a Rocket Boy is not giving up!
MindsEye had a terrible start and remains the lowest-rated game on Metacritic in 2025. The game recently received its latest update following layoffs at the studio. We’ve also heard that MindsEye was so poorly received that its publisher, IO Interactive (the Danish team recently announced the release date of their next game, 007 First Light, which we also covered), is considering pulling back from publishing it.
In 2023, Lord of the Rings: Gollum (where developer Daedalic Entertainment failed so badly it reverted to being a publisher), in 2024 South Park: Snow Day and Funko Fusion, and in 2025 MindsEye all earned spots on the list of shame. Other games may still join them, but Leslie Benzies, the former Rockstar veteran, and his studio Build a Rocket Boy remain committed to refining MindsEye, hoping one day it will no longer be mentioned alongside these titles.
“Update 4 introduces a range of UX improvements and numerous performance enhancements to the game, and we’ve squashed a lot of bugs. These efforts will continue in Update 5, where our team is working hard to deliver major improvements to the performance, combat, and enemy AI systems. We remain committed to refining MindsEye and enhancing the gameplay experience. Ongoing updates will continue to be shared,” reads Build a Rocket Boy’s statement on Steam.
The patch notes are extensive, with bug fixes and adjustments listed separately by platform. Still, anyone who has played MindsEye knows it will take more than a few fixes to solve the game’s deep-rooted problems. Time will tell whether Build a Rocket Boy can keep supporting the game or whether MindsEye will go down as both their first and last title.
