TECH NEWS – The photos may show engineering prototypes, but those typically represent the last step before finalization.
The awe-dropping keynote is almost here, yet the leaks keep coming. In recent months we’ve mostly seen individual parts—etched frames, flex cables, camera assemblies, battery covers, dummy units—but not a single complete device. There was that instance of street testing for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, and now a leaker has shared rear shots of two colorways for the top model’s engineering samples.
The images were posted by PhoneArt (formerly Ice Universe), who shared two zoomed-in photos and claimed they depict iPhone 17 Pro Max engineering units. Given they were uploaded to social media, the quality has noticeably degraded. The sender likely wished to remain anonymous; Apple is almost certainly tracking such leaks closely, and a misstep could mean immediate termination.
This is the closest photo of the whole Internet to the real iPhone 17 Pro Max. They are engineering machine models. This time there is no black version, only this dark blue. pic.twitter.com/OKzHLuItC5

The prominent rear bump—exclusive to the two Pro models—is clearly visible, hinting at design adjustments and welcome camera upgrades. Unfortunately, nothing in the photos suggests a shift from titanium to aluminum, so we’ll have to wait for the event for confirmation. As usual, expect Apple to reserve a few extras for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, and brighter finishes than the annual understated palette could nudge users toward upgrading.
The official unveiling of the iPhone 17 lineup isn’t far off. Alongside the base model, Apple is expected to offer a slimmer Air, plus the Pro and Pro Max— with Air replacing the Plus. A little more patience and we’ll know for sure.
