MOVIE NEWS – It’s been nearly two years since Prime Video announced a new spin-off of The Boys, set in Mexico. The hit superhero drama is looking to expand beyond the U.S., and according to its creator, the project promises plenty of fun.
This November marks two years since Amazon Prime Video revealed The Boys: Mexico, a spin-off aimed at globalizing the franchise that had so far been confined to the United States. Since then, updates have been scarce—until now. Eric Kripke, creator and producer of the main show, has finally shared new details about the project.
Speaking during the premiere of Gen V on September 17, Kripke assured fans that things are moving forward with what will be the third spin-off of the franchise, following Gen V and the upcoming Vought Rising, which has just begun filming to explore the origins of the notorious company. “We are working on its pilot now. It’s great. I mean, who knows, you never really know, but I can say that the world meets the standard of all our spin-offs. It’s our universe, but with a totally different tone, and it’s super fun. Gael and Diego are executive producers, which is amazing, and they’ve really committed to the project. So the short answer is: we’ll see, but I think the script is good.”

The Boys: Mexico has Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna (Star Wars: Andor) on board as executive producers. The show will be filmed entirely in Spanish and set in Mexico. That’s all we know for now—plot details and casting remain under wraps, though it’s safe to expect an almost exclusively Mexican ensemble.
The long silence, combined with the fact that Vought Rising started production earlier, led many to assume the project might be in trouble. But it seems that’s not the case; the team just needs to finalize the script. Kripke has also stressed in the past that he doesn’t want The Boys to turn into the very thing it critiques (Disney), so we shouldn’t expect an overload of spin-offs.
