Victory for the Players: Vampire Bloodlines 2 Unlocks Controversial Clans for Free

A win for the community! One of the most anticipated RPGs has finally confirmed what fans long suspected: player backlash worked in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. The Lasombra and Toreador clans, initially locked behind a paid DLC, are now part of the base game, and The Chinese Room has also promised extra story content.

The controversy surrounding Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is officially over. When The Chinese Room and Paradox Interactive revealed that two of the game’s six playable clans (Toreador and Lasombra) would be locked behind a paid expansion, fans erupted. Hundreds of reviews flooded in, pushing the developers to admit that “big changes” were on the way. Now, it’s clear that the complaints had an effect: the team has reversed course.

The Chinese Room confirmed the decision with a new trailer, showing how the game has been adjusted in response to the backlash. The result is that Toreador and Lasombra will be accessible from the base game, with no paywall. However, the studio also announced two new story expansions – Loose Canon and The Flower & The Flame – which are included in the Premium Edition Expansion Pass and are scheduled for release in 2026.

Digital and Physical Editions Detailed

The developers also took the opportunity to outline what comes with the different editions of Bloodlines 2:

  • Deluxe Edition (€69.99): Base game plus Santa Monica Memories, a cosmetic pack with decorative items inspired by the original Bloodlines, to personalize the player’s apartment. Also available separately for €11.99.
  • Premium Edition (€89.99): Base game plus Expansion Pass, including Santa Monica Memories, Loose Canon, and The Flower & The Flame.

The trailer also teased the narrative content of the expansions: players will explore the perspective of Brujah sheriff Benny Muldoon and embark on the legendary journey of Ysabella, the Firstborn of the Toreador clan. The Expansion Pass will also be sold separately from October 21, the game’s release date, at €34.99.

Meanwhile, The Chinese Room and Paradox outlined the extras included in physical editions, produced with PLAION. These collector’s items are aimed at the dedicated fanbase and range from pendants to Steelbook cases:

  • Day One Edition (€59.99): Base game plus the Bloodlines Nostalgia Jukebox pre-order bonus. Some stores will also offer a pendant inspired by the St. James Cross.
  • Premium Edition (€89.99): Base game plus Nostalgia Jukebox, Expansion Pass, five character cards, a diary, and a Steelbook case, all packaged in a premium box.
