Anshare Studios and 3D Realms have pushed back the release date slightly, but there’s no need to worry that it’s been delayed until 2026. Originally, the second modernization of the first Painkiller was scheduled for release on October 9. There was an HD rethink during the PS3/X360 era before the remake. However, this plan has been scrapped, and according to the announcement, Painkiller will now be released on October 21. Additionally, a roguelike game mode called Rogue Angel has been announced. It will be separate from the main story and will take players to a new purgatory-like world where they must fight their way through procedurally generated arenas and collect tarot cards, weapons, and items to help them defeat bosses.

You are trapped in Purgatory, being punished for your sins against Heaven. However, the Creator offers you a chance to redeem yourself. As one of the champions, it is your duty to stop the fallen angel Azazel from unleashing his demonic armies on Earth. You will face hordes of enemies and demons with unique powers, as well as Azazel’s three monstrous children — the Nephilim. Will you succeed in your mission and earn your salvation?

Jump, dash, and grapple your way through vast biomes while battling enemies with a variety of new and classic Painkiller weapons. Purgatory is your playground. Unleash the pain by using tarot cards to enhance your abilities and combine them with those of other players to obliterate your foes. Choose from four characters: Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch, whose abilities range from energy and health to strength and damage.

Painkiller will be released on October 21 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
