Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Genki’s Highway Racing Game Is Coming to PlayStation 5! [VIDEO]

The latest installment of Tokyo Xtreme Racer recently left early access, and now Genki‘s game is coming to Sony consoles.

There hasn’t been a new Tokyo Xtreme Racer game released on Sony platforms in the West since Tokyo Xtreme Racer was released on the PlayStation 2 (PS2) 22 years ago. Genki is filling this gap by releasing Tokyo Xtreme Racer on the PlayStation 5. The game spent eight months in early access on Steam before leaving on September 23.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer is a racing game set in a future, closed-off Tokyo. Compete against powerful rivals on the city’s highways, aiming to reach the top in your customized cars. Drive real cars on meticulously recreated courses, compete against powerful rivals, slip through traffic, and engage in nerve-wracking battles. This is an unparalleled series.

Unlike regular racing games, the SP Battle feature is unique in that it is based on Spirit Points, a numeric value that quantifies drivers’ willpower. Your speed is tested, but you must also master the mind games and break your opponent’s resolve. The Tokyo Expressway has been faithfully reproduced, and its complex twists and dramatic elevation changes deliver an adrenaline-pumping racing experience that’s as close to the real thing as it gets. The race begins with a flash of headlights as you face off against rivals with distinctive cars and bold driving styles.

The Japanese name for the Tokyo Xtreme Racer franchise is Shutoko Battle, and it has more installments in Japan than in the West. In Europe, the franchise has a variety of names. The first installment was released on the SEGA Dreamcast as Tokyo Highway Challenge, and the sequel was titled Tokyo Highway Challenge 2. Shutoko Battle 0 was released as Tokyo Xtreme Racer, followed in 2005 by Kaido Racer on PS2 (originally released as Kaido Battle 2: Chain Reaction) and its sequel, Kaido Racer 2, a year later.

The release date for Tokyo Xtreme Racer on PlayStation 5 is not yet known.
