Sega Doubles Down on Remakes: More Yakuza Revivals Are on the Way!

Sega is entering a new era, doubling down on one of its most beloved franchises by committing to more remakes. After announcing the remake of Yakuza 3, the head of the Like a Dragon series has shared exciting news for fans: Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 13 with full Spanish language support.

Sega is currently thriving, and much of its momentum comes from the success of its remakes. Reviving classic titles with modern visuals and mechanics, adding new language options, and releasing them on more platforms has proven to be an excellent strategy to reach new audiences — as seen with the Yakuza series. While some players remain skeptical about remakes, Sega’s reality is very different.

The prestigious Ryu Ga Gotoku studio — the team behind Like a Dragon — is fully committed to revamping older installments. Just days ago, Yakuza Kiwami 3 was announced, following Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, Yakuza Kiwami, and Kiwami 2, which will arrive on December 8 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with enhanced graphics and PC Spanish language support. The two previous titles will debut on Nintendo Switch 2 in November.

Starting in February 2026, players will be able to enjoy all four revamped Like a Dragon titles. But there’s more good news: Ryu Ga Gotoku has strongly hinted that additional remakes are already in the pipeline. This was confirmed by Masayoshi Yokoyama, head of the studio and executive producer of the franchise, in an interview with Korean outlet Ruliweb.

More Yakuza Remakes Are Coming

“At the studio, ‘Kiwami’ means a complete remake. Kiwami and Kiwami 2 were originally PS2 games, so the graphical leap was significant and felt like a full rebirth. With Kiwami 3, technology has advanced even further, and we want players to enjoy the experience again. I believe the Kiwami series will continue into the future, and I’d like you to think of Kiwami 3 as the first step on that path,” said Yokoyama.

As Yokoyama oversees the franchise’s long-term strategy and internal coordination, it’s almost certain that more Yakuza remakes will follow. Fans are already speculating about potential remakes of Kiwami 4, Kiwami 5, or Kiwami 6. In Spain, interest in the franchise continues to grow, as language localization opens the door for many new players who previously avoided the series due to language barriers.
