Supergiant Games: Even the Studio Doesn’t Know What’s Next After Hades 2! [VIDEO]

The studio has yet to decide what the team behind Bastion and Hades will work on next.

Amir Rao, co-founder and studio director of Supergiant Games, discussed the company’s current position in the video embedded below, following Hades 2’s exit from early access. However, he admitted that they still don’t know what the next step will be. When asked whether Hades 3 was on the horizon, Rao explained that their process has always been organic: while working on a project, they don’t discuss the next one. Instead, they focus entirely on the current game, and if a great idea emerges, they incorporate it into the project at hand.

Supergiant will continue to support Hades 2 even after the release of version 1.0. According to Rao, player feedback is a vital part of the development process. This is one of the reasons why early access is so valuable to them: it allows them to receive genuine, human feedback on everything they create. Rao emphasized that such feedback was instrumental in shaping both the original Hades and Hades 2.

The next step is to focus on version 1.0, analyze player feedback — including bug fixes and balance adjustments — and then take a short break before deciding what the future holds. Rao stressed that this is not a predetermined plan or something they secretly know. Such a narrow focus makes sense given that, despite 16 years of growing success, Supergiant remains a relatively small studio by modern industry standards.

On September 25, the San Francisco Chronicle noted in an article about Hades 2 that the Supergiant team consists of only 25 people.
