Channing Tatum Teases “A Whole Different Gambit… and a Whole Lot More” in Avengers: Doomsday

MOVIE NEWS – Channing Tatum has spent his entire life preparing for this role, and now the time has finally come: according to him, what we’ve seen of Gambit so far is just the tip of the iceberg. “You’re gonna get to see a whole different [Gambit]… and a whole lot more.”

While promoting his upcoming film Roofman, Tatum revealed how his beloved Cajun accent — first heard briefly in Deadpool & Wolverine — is being taken to the next level in Avengers: Doomsday. “I know the Cajun accent. I don’t have anyone in my family that’s Cajun, but it’s a very specific dialect, and doing it in a way that people around the world would understand is tough. No one can write for a Cajun because they’re not Cajun, so they just write what needs to be said, and then I have to translate it with my dialect coach, who actually is Cajun. It’s such a wild process.”

Tatum’s accent went viral in 2024, spawning countless memes and leaving fans eager for more of Remy LeBeau — and that’s exactly what they’re going to get. Raised in Pascagoula, Mississippi, Tatum explained: “I lived, literally, in the swamp.” His father is from New Orleans, and despite several moves around the South, Gambit has always stayed with him: “I was the kid in the front den throwing cards at my friends. We would watch the [X-Men] cartoons. There were no comic book stores near us, so I watched the show, and [Gambit] was always my favorite. I loved him because he felt like the most real person. He liked women, he smoked, he drank. He wasn’t exactly a hero, but his heart wouldn’t let him be a villain — and he had swag.”

When the X-Men movies started rolling out, Tatum dreamed about how the character would appear. He pursued acting, and after a long wait, the dream finally came true: “I can’t describe what it felt like to be on the Deadpool & Wolverine set for the first time. Even though I had visited before and seen Ryan [Reynolds] and Hugh [Jackman] in costume, it didn’t hit me until I was in costume and in the scene. I got goosebumps. I just thought, ‘This is happening.’ It felt like a ‘make-a-wish’ — like Ryan [Reynolds] was granting me a wish.”

Audiences will finally get the full Gambit experience in Avengers: Doomsday in 2026.
