Activision Goes All-In: Black Ops 6 Will Be Free for a Whole Week to Make You Forget About Battlefield 6!

Activision is throwing everything it has at the competition: from October 9 to 16, for the first time in the series’ history, you’ll be able to try the full campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 — right before Battlefield 6 launches.

The release of the year’s two biggest shooters is almost here. Battlefield 6 is set to launch in just a few days, aiming to dramatically surpass the franchise’s most recent, lackluster entries. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is coming on November 14, but its popularity seems to be slipping. Activision is pulling out all the stops to compete with EA’s shooter and has come up with a clever plan to steal the spotlight.

Activision’s plan: overshadow Battlefield 6’s release

Yesterday, it was announced that the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta had been extended until October 9 — just 24 hours before Battlefield 6’s October 10 launch. But Activision isn’t stopping there. It’s now confirmed that Black Ops 6 will be free to play from October 9 to 16, with access to multiplayer, Zombies, and even the campaign.

The most surprising part? Starting Thursday at 6 p.m. and running until 7 p.m. the following week, players will have full access to the Black Ops 6 story campaign — with no restrictions. This is unprecedented for the series: the only similar instance was in December 2016, when two missions from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare were made playable. This time, however, the full campaign is open for a limited time — almost certainly to pressure and compete with Battlefield 6.

Additionally, players can explore more than 40 multiplayer maps and all six Zombies maps during the free trial. The Haunting event brings new locations like Gravity, Rig, and Mothball, plus the limited-time Haunted Havoc Zombies mode and a horror-inspired Slasher Deathmatch. While ranked competitive modes are excluded, everything else — including themed skins like Predator, Jason, and Chucky, as well as new Halloween weapons and events tied to the Season 6 Battle Pass — will be available.
