EA Sports FC 26: Is This Year’s Gambling Game Disguised as Soccer Selling Well?

No, we’re not exaggerating: in most of Electronic Arts’ annual sports titles, Ultimate Team is the main focus, with everything else taking a back seat.

EA Sports FC 26 launched on September 26, and according to Alinea Analytics, the latest installment of EA’s annual soccer franchise sold over 10 million copies across all platforms in less than two weeks after release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. (This also includes PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and Amazon Luna.)

This is an impressive start even for a franchise like EA Sports FC, which is expected to reach these kinds of sales numbers every year. The company reported that 60% of the total sales came from PlayStation players. (If we had to guess, the biggest market for this soccer-lite title is likely the United Kingdom, where discs are flying off the shelves.)

Beyond EA Sports FC, Alinea Analytics reported that September was a particularly strong month for sports titles. NBA 2K26 ranked second, selling over 6 million copies since launch, with 2 million purchased by PlayStation users in September. Borderlands 4 placed third among PlayStation’s top sellers, while Hollow Knight: Silksong took fourth. Other notable games in the top 10 included Silent Hill f in tenth, Dying Light: The Beast in eighth, EA Sports FC 25 in seventh, and Grand Theft Auto V in fifth.

The question remains: how much better would the game be if Ultimate Team wasn’t part of the package?
