Gameplay Group has announced an adaptation that we have been waiting for a long time because it is the main focus of the animated series.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a fighting game rooted in the spirit of elemental mastery. Designed for newcomers and veterans alike, it channels the energy of classic fighting games while breaking new ground in movement, style, and combat expression. Built with a focus on fluidity, responsiveness, and online integrity, the game invites players to discover what it truly means to fight with purpose. With its hand-drawn 2D visuals, it preserves the distinctive style and expressive animation of the original series.
Twelve playable characters will be available at the game’s release, and this roster will grow significantly through a seasonal model. Selectable support characters influence your fighting style and provide special moves. With its unique Flow system, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game features movement-focused gameplay and a single-player campaign with an original narrative. According to Gameplay Group, combo challenges, a gallery, and the best netcode and cross-play in its class await players. Additional features and mechanics will be revealed later.
The animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender has seen numerous game adaptations, the first of which was released in October 2006. Nickelodeon even launched an MMORPG, Avatar: Legends of the Arena, for PC in September 2008. However, it’s surprising that we had to wait this long for a pure fighting game, considering the fantasy series’ heavy reliance on the four natural elements and martial arts. It’s remarkable that the franchise, which began in 2005, took nearly two decades to get here!
According to the Gameplay Group’s announcement, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will be released in summer 2026. This fast-paced 1v1 fighting game is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC — with the surprising inclusion of the PlayStation 4 as well.
