First Look at Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story Shows a Rugged Charlie Hunnam Like You’ve Never Seen Him

MOVIE NEWS – Charlie Hunnam, who previously portrayed Ed Gein, has completely transformed for his new role as Andrew Borden in the fourth season of Netflix’s hit true crime anthology Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story. The 45-year-old Sons of Anarchy star was spotted on set in Los Angeles wearing a long brown robe embroidered with deep red patterns, a white nightgown, and black slippers. His graying beard and single gold ring on his right pinky completed the aging fatherly look.

Additional photos revealed Ella Beatty (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) as Lizzie Borden, dressed in a pale pink gown with a floral crown and light brown ankle boots. She was seen walking alongside Vicky Krieps (The Phantom Thread), who portrays the Borden family maid, Bridget Sullivan, dressed in a simple frock and apron. Another image showed Rebecca Hall (Godzilla vs. Kong) as Abby Borden, gazing through a curtain in a deep purple dress with buttons down the front, according to What’s On Netflix.

The new season will also feature Billie Lourd (Scream Queens) as Emma Borden, Lizzie’s sister, and Jessica Barden (American Horror Stories) as Lizzie’s friend Nance O’Neill.

Monster’s First Female “Killer” Who Was Found Not Guilty

Previous seasons of Monster have explored infamous murderers such as Jeffrey Dahmer and Ed Gein, but Season 4 will center on a woman who was never actually convicted. The new story follows Lizzie Borden, accused in 1892 of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe in Fall River, Massachusetts. Reports claimed Abby was struck over 17 times, while Andrew was hit about 10 times with a hatchet.

Borden stood trial in 1893 but was acquitted due to a lack of concrete evidence, including disputes over her whereabouts during the crime and uncertainty about the weapon used. Despite her acquittal, Lizzie Borden remains one of America’s most notorious alleged murderers, inspiring countless films, TV shows, and even nursery rhymes.

Filming for Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story is expected to continue into early 2026, with no release date yet announced. Until then, fans can stream the previous installment, Monster: The Ed Gein Story, on Netflix.
