Sony Under Fire Again as Fake PS5 Games Flood the PlayStation Store

“Is it a scam?” users ask as criticism of Sony intensifies. Fake copies of popular PS5 titles are once again flooding the PlayStation Store. Two new games have appeared, imitating hits like Black Myth: Wukong and No, I’m Not a Human.

This isn’t the first time fake games have slipped into digital storefronts, but Sony’s PlayStation Store has become a recurring hotspot for such scams. In recent days, several fraudulent titles have surfaced, attempting to deceive PS5 owners by mimicking the art or ideas of popular releases—most notably No, I’m Not a Human, one of Steam’s latest viral horror hits.

According to PlayStation LifeStyle, a counterfeit version of No, I’m Not a Human was listed for PS4 and PS5 with identical artwork and descriptions to the original title, which currently holds a 95% positive rating on Steam. Since the real version doesn’t yet have a console release date, many players assumed this was a surprise “shadow drop” by the publisher Critical Reflex—and some even bought the fake, believing it to be official.

Within hours, Reddit threads began popping up as users realized they had been tricked. Many urged Sony to tighten its review process for new listings on the PlayStation Store—a problem that has been plaguing the platform for months. Low-effort or plagiarized games have repeatedly slipped through the cracks, undermining both consumer trust and the reputation of the brand.

Fake Games, Real Money: PS5 Players Outraged

These so-called “shovelware scams” exploit the popularity of major releases by copying their names, visuals, or themes. Recently, Wukong: Legacy Reborn joined the list—a blatant clone of Black Myth: Wukong. Scammers are capitalizing on the buzz surrounding the original game’s sequel to mislead unsuspecting players.

Meanwhile, criticism of Sony continues to grow, with many calling for stricter measures to safeguard the digital storefront and prevent these recurring scams. Both of the aforementioned fake games remain available on the PlayStation Store, with one still listed for $10.99.
