Owlcat Games is working on two major Warhammer-related projects: one will be ported to a new platform, while the other will soon enter open alpha testing.
Owlcat Games has announced that its next cRPG, Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, will enter open alpha on PC later this year. Aspiring inquisitors will soon lead a diverse combat squad and shape the fate of the Imperium through their choices. Set in the grimdark universe created by Games Workshop, Dark Heresy is a narrative-driven tactical RPG that puts players in command of a varied group of warriors in a desperate battle against heresy and corruption, all unfolding amid the mysteries of Noctis Aeterna and the Tyrant Star. Companions range from loyal Imperial subjects, like a veteran guard from the deadly world of Catachan, to alien mercenaries such as a birdlike Kroot fighter.
Featuring complex investigations, turn-based combat, and story choices with major consequences, Dark Heresy builds on and expands many of the ideas introduced in Rogue Trader. Unlike its predecessor, the game will include full voice acting for all dialogue, making the narrative experience even more immersive. Speaking of Rogue Trader, Owlcat also had news on that front: the acclaimed cRPG will soon be released on the Nintendo Switch 2, marking the studio’s first title for the upcoming console. Previously, Owlcat had brought Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous to the original Switch via a cloud-based version.
Over the past two years, Rogue Trader has continued to evolve, receiving two major DLC expansions — Void Shadows and Lex Imperialis. Two more DLCs have already been announced. The third expansion will take players into a Necron crypt curated by the legendary Trazyn the Infinite, where they must battle ancient guardians and uncover relics tied to the Von Valancius legacy. The fourth DLC, titled Processional of the Damned, will introduce a surreal graveyard of derelict starships — a place of madness, mystery, and danger.
It’s clear that Owlcat is doubling down on the Warhammer universe, continuing to expand and refine its dark, narrative-driven take on one of gaming’s most iconic sci-fi settings.
