The NetEase-owned studio has announced a free-to-play, team-based action-strategy game — a direction that marks a major departure from the Quantic Dream we once knew.
The gods have vanished. In their absence, a few chosen individuals discovered that they could channel an ancient power known as the Source — and use it to shape fate itself. These sorcerers, shamans, and mages, now called Spellcasters, are working to determine the destiny of the world. You are one of them: a powerful mage who wields control over the energy that fuels all magic. Spellcasters Chronicles is a free-to-play, team-based, third-person action strategy game where you take on the role of a mage commander, summoning creatures, casting spells, and employing tactics to dominate the battlefield. The question is — will you be the mage they fear or the one they worship?
Engage in epic 3v3 battles, command a mighty spellcaster, and coordinate with your allies to defeat your rivals. Fight across mystical arenas, unleash devastating spells, empower teammates, and reshape the battlefield itself. Soar through the skies in fast-paced aerial combat, where your reflexes and magic determine victory. Command your army from above, devise your next move, and turn the tide of war. Your abilities define the outcome of each fight, while your strategy determines the fate of the match. Think quickly and act even faster to secure triumph.
Summon entire armies made up of diverse creatures — from skeletal warriors and ogres to dragons — each with its own unique role. Build towers and magical structures to gain territorial control, and unleash colossal Titans capable of crushing the battlefield and subduing your enemies. Customize your playstyle by collecting over fifty spells and summons from seven distinct schools of magic. Whether you prefer to play as support, tank, or damage dealer, every spell helps shape your personal strategy. Each season introduces player decisions that permanently influence the game’s story and world evolution.
Before the official reveal, David Cage shared an open letter on Quantic Dream’s official website: “For more than 28 years, Quantic Dream has pushed the boundaries of interactive storytelling. With award-winning titles like Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human, over 25 million players have joined us on the journeys of Ethan Mars, Jodie Holmes, Kara, Markus, and Connor. Since 2018, we’ve entered a new phase of growth and innovation: we’ve doubled the size of our team, opened a new studio in Montreal, moved to a new Paris headquarters, developed the next generation of our proprietary technology, and become our own publisher. After years of focusing on single projects, we decided to take a bold new step. Multiple teams are now fully dedicated to crafting next-generation experiences, including a competitive multiplayer title born from the same curiosity and creativity that have always defined us. This new project may surprise our fans because it is very different from what we’ve done before. But taking risks, challenging ourselves, exploring new ways to play and tell stories, and attempting the impossible have always been part of our DNA. We know how difficult it is to create something new, to earn players’ trust, and to stand out in such a competitive landscape. As we have no legacy in this genre, we understand that everything must be proven — which is why your feedback and support will be essential. Together, we can create something truly unique. Of course, development on Star Wars: Eclipse is still ongoing, and we look forward to sharing more about it soon. I would like to thank all of our fans around the world for playing our games, for their kind words and encouragement, and for standing with us on this exciting new journey.”
Spellcasters Chronicles has been announced for PC, and players can already sign up for the closed beta through the official website.
