Whether Switch 2 becomes the best-selling console ever will hinge on several factors, but Nintendo is already insulating itself from the supply woes that dogged PS5: according to Bloomberg, the company aims to build 25 million units before March 2026.
Nintendo’s hybrid has stormed out of the gate, moving more than 5 million units in its first month worldwide—clear proof that players were ready to jump to Kyoto’s new generation. Yet the most lucrative stretch of the entertainment calendar—holiday season—still lies ahead, so the company is racing to scale production for winter.
That’s the gist from multiple Bloomberg sources familiar with Nintendo’s Switch 2 manufacturing plans. After reviewing sales projections for the coming months, the Japanese firm has reportedly asked partners to reinforce and accelerate output. Expectations are that demand will remain strong beyond the holidays and well into the New Year.
In hard numbers, the push translates to 25 million Switch 2 units built before March 2026. That would more than cover holiday demand and the weeks that follow, though Kyoto could tweak final volume once December market trends and spending data are in.
Nintendo Won’t Let Supply Snags Derail Switch 2
The strategy signals that Nintendo wants stock ready even if production gets tricky. It’s a very different backdrop from PS5’s early years, when component shortages throttled console and electronics output. Shelves emptied, online listings vanished in minutes, and scalping surged—an all-too-familiar pattern.
Hedging now makes sense. Switch 2’s fast start suggests it could climb the all-time sales charts quickly, helped by exclusives like Mario Kart: World, Donkey Kong: Bananza, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and the upcoming Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The next few months will show how the hybrid’s momentum holds, but it’s already clear Nintendo intends to keep the road as smooth as possible.
