Resident Evil 0 Remake: Another Source Claims That Capcom Is Working on It!

It’s becoming increasingly likely that Resident Evil 0, originally released for the Nintendo GameCube, will be remade in the future.

Given the huge success of the Resident Evil remakes, it’s no surprise that Capcom is continuing to explore this avenue. Fans would most like to see the spin-off Code Veronica, released in 2000 and focusing on Claire Redfield, and the GameCube prequel Resident Evil 0 remade. Fortunately for them, reliable sources have confirmed the existence of both projects multiple times, suggesting that they may be released in the near future. MP1st can confirm that the Resident Evil 0 remake exists and has learned a few details about the project, including plot additions, characters, and development information.

Similar to what reliable insiders have said, we were also told that the remake has been in development for several years. The title’s code name is Chamber, a clever play on the surname of the main character, Rebecca Chambers. Voice and motion capture with new actors in the lead roles began sometime in 2024. Jon McLaren, who played Star-Lord in the 2021 Guardians of the Galaxy game adaptation and also appeared in Far Cry 5, is one of the actors joining the new cast. This information can be found in the actor’s résumé, where Project Chamber is listed as one of his projects, and he is listed as a lead actor.

Beyond Capture Studios, a motion capture company that has previously collaborated with Capcom on games such as Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6, is overseeing the project. Since the actor is playing a lead role, it is likely that Jon McLaren is playing Billy Coen, Rebecca Chambers’s partner. These casting details probably rule out the return of the original game’s voice actors, though recasting characters is common in Resident Evil remakes.

In terms of plot, the remake is expected to expand on the original material, though the core story will remain unchanged—also a common feature of Resident Evil remakes. One of the new plot threads relates to the initial stage of the game, which takes place on a train. Specifically, it relates to the train conductor. In the original game, the train conductor never appears; only his office is mentioned. In the remake, however, he will have a slightly larger role.

In one scene, the character asks Rebecca to help stop the train from accelerating. Ultimately, however, he betrays her and locks her in with a group of zombies so that he can escape. We don’t see him again until later in the game when Rebecca encounters him talking to a mysterious, unnamed character who seems aware of the situation and plays an important role in the plot. Those familiar with the story may already know who this person is, but they also know these plot elements weren’t included in the original game. Therefore, the story structure may be cinematic.

Recent statements by insider Dusk Golem suggest that the Code Veronica remake will be released first, rumored to be in the first quarter of 2027. The Resident Evil 0 Remake may target a 2028 release, so we likely have some time before this remake arrives.
