Xbox’s Next Move Isn’t a Retreat: Sarah Bond Says the Series X|S Successor Is “100%” in Development

Xbox is repeating it loud and clear: there’s no room for doubt. Microsoft is “100%” committed to building what comes after the Xbox Series X and S. Xbox president Sarah Bond resurfaced to say teams are already shaping the next machine. The message from Redmond is simple—this isn’t the end of consoles, it’s the start of the next round.

Across the community, players have been voicing real unease about Microsoft’s Xbox playbook. Former exclusives are popping up on rival platforms, the “everything is an Xbox” philosophy has ruffled feathers, and tweaks to Xbox Game Pass didn’t exactly land with applause. The discourse even slid toward a future without Xbox hardware—speculation Microsoft has tried to stamp out more than once. Recently the company teased its “next generation,” and now its president has doubled down: multiple teams are building the successor to the Series X and S.

The latest statements come from Sarah Bond in a Variety interview centered on Microsoft’s experience designing and launching the recent ROG Xbox Ally. While that device took center stage, Bond used the moment to underline that Microsoft hasn’t drifted from its console roadmap. “We’re 100% focused on creating things for the future,” she said. “We have our next-gen hardware in development.”

“We’ve been working on prototyping and design,” she continued. “We’ve already announced our partnership with AMD, so you’ll see results soon. Here we saw a chance to innovate differently and give players another option beyond our next-gen hardware. We’re always listening to what players and creators want. When there’s real demand for innovation, we’re going to build it.”

Microsoft is also lining up improvements for the ROG Xbox Ally.

Console vision and specs are, by nature, sealed behind NDAs, so it’s no shock that Microsoft is reiterating intent without spilling speeds and feeds. Those details will come later; for now, the takeaway is that Redmond has no intention of stepping off the stage. And Xbox’s push doesn’t stop at the living room box. As Bond told Variety, teams want to refine the ROG Xbox Ally and push the ecosystem wider: “Many more innovations are coming, including further experience optimization, expanding the compatibility program for handhelds, adding more benefits and improvements, and rolling out features that give people more choices and more games.”
