Call of Duty Warzone: A Complete Overhaul in the Shadow of Battlefield 6!

Five years on from launch and with Battlefield 6’s BR looming, Activision is racing to tune up Call of Duty’s free-to-play sandbox. While the Black Ops 7 integration is still pending, Raven Software concedes parts of Warzone have gotten stale — so Season 2 brings a complete Rebirth Island overhaul, Season 1 debuts Haven’s Hollow, and more changes are queued up.

Warzone is past the five-year mark, and competition from Battlefield 6 has put urgency behind improvements. The Black Ops 7 tie-in isn’t live yet, but Raven needs to rekindle excitement across a community that feels certain systems have aged — hence a slate of major revisions.

What’s Changing in Warzone

In a new community update, Raven openly acknowledged the stagnation and laid out timelines to restore pace and variety. The team says Rebirth Island and Resurgence have “started to feel a bit stagnant,” so Season 2 will deliver a “full map refresh” with new POIs, a visual pass, and encounter tweaks to sharpen combat.
Season 1 introduces Haven’s Hollow, a new Resurgence map shaped by learnings from Call of Duty: NEXT testing. Shortly after, the studio will rotate Rebirth Island and Haven’s Hollow to keep the experience from going repetitive. Beyond locations, Raven is committing to a quicker live-ops rhythm.
That includes at least two balance updates per season targeting Warzone weapons and attachments, along with periodic adjustments to loot, perks, equipment, and contracts. Also in Season 2, Avalon arrives with a Blackout-style experience as an alternative to the traditional Verdansk flavor, expanding the original Warzone feel.

Warzone’s creators concede the BR has become “a bit monotonous” — but say meaningful changes are on the way.

Looking to early next year, Raven also confirmed long-requested large-map rotation for classic Battle Royale. Previously deemed unrealistic due to technical limits, the feature represents a structural shift to increase scenario variety and sustain long-term interest (via Eurogamer).
Playlists will double as a proving ground for new ideas. On the competitive side, Raven is teasing richer Ranked rewards in Season 2 and upgrades to private matches — including the ability to remove players from the lobby before a match starts — giving more control to creators and community league admins. The aim is to restore freshness and confidence at a pivotal moment, right as Battlefield 6’s BR lands with Season 1.
