Gothic Remake Follows The Witcher 3’s Lead With One Tiny Feature That Makes A Big Difference

The open world of Gothic Remake will echo The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with a simple yet super useful touch: like CD Projekt RED’s approach, Alkimia is adding a narrator to recap what happened in your playthrough when you return to the RPG after a break.

The long-awaited return of this classic draws nearer, and piece by piece, Alkimia Interactive is revealing how it will modernize one of the early 2000s’ most iconic RPGs. That modernization borrows smartly from other games, and in a Poznań Game Arena (PGA) interview the Spanish studio highlighted one standout addition: a Witcher 3-inspired narrative system that helps you pick up the story when loading a save or resuming after a long pause.

Gothic Remake doesn’t want you to miss a beat

According to Alkimia Interactive CEO Reinhard Pollice, the remake will add a feature that delivers a recap of key plot points the first time you load a save after some time away. “We’ve added a feature that, when you load a saved game for the first time after a certain amount of time, summarizes all the key story moments you’ve experienced so far,” Pollice said. “It’s voiced by a narrator and, because it plays during the loading screen, it doesn’t interrupt anything; plus, you can skip it if you want.” The goal, he added, is to keep players immersed in the story even if they return weeks later.

The idea recalls Jaskier’s recaps in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, widely praised for both utility and lore-friendly execution. In Gothic Remake, the intention is to offer a seamless way to catch up without breaking immersion—especially valuable in a sprawling open-world adventure with lengthy questlines, multiple factions, and decisions that reshape the narrative. It’s a small improvement that signals Alkimia’s commitment to aligning a classic formula with current narrative standards.

This addition joins a broader slate of upgrades balancing fidelity and modernization. The studio has confirmed a smoother combat system and a redesigned UI, while Unreal Engine 5 aims for more than eye candy—targeting a natural recreation of the original RPG’s map. All of it arrives with the open structure and dark tone intact, pillars of the Piranha Bytes classic.

Slated for Q1 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, Gothic Remake aims to fuse the essence of Piranha Bytes’ original with the narrative and technical advantages of modern RPGs. For veterans, it’s a chance to relive a European great; for newcomers, a gateway to a universe that defined an era.
