TECH NEWS – Following a new statement by U.S. President Donald Trump, Nvidia’s Blackwell AI chips remain shut out of the Chinese market.
The export of Nvidia’s Blackwell AI chips to China will not be permitted. Trump has put an end to all developments related to the company’s return to Beijing under Jensen Huang’s leadership. Huang’s desire to return to China will have to wait, as Nvidia’s AI chips will still not have access to the Chinese AI market, even after the monumental trade breakthrough between the United States and China. In an interview with CBS News, Trump stated that the U.S. will not allow other countries, such as China, to access high-end AI chips. He specifically mentioned that he will not approve Blackwell, meaning that, for now, the Nvidia–China situation remains at a standstill.
Trump recently said the situation is solely between the two parties and that the U.S. government is acting as a mediator. Therefore, his latest comments are surprising. However, the situation in China is deteriorating for Nvidia. The company faces restrictions from the U.S. government and hostility from the Chinese administration toward its AI chips. This is one of the main reasons for the stalemate.
Jensen Huang has repeatedly told the media that his company’s revenues in China have fallen to zero, adding that any breakthrough would be considered a bonus. Despite this bold stance, Nvidia is clearly losing tens of billions of dollars in revenue in the Chinese AI market. Before the export restrictions were introduced, Beijing accounted for a significant portion of the company’s revenue. Based on Trump’s latest statement, Nvidia appears stuck in China with its Hopper H20 AI chip, which has failed to gain widespread adoption.
The situation is becoming increasingly challenging for Nvidia. In fact, the hope of a breakthrough in China is slimmer than ever. Therefore, it must open up to Western companies, which could ultimately result in higher prices for all its products.
