The latest Nintendo hardware is outselling the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
In its quarterly financial report, Nintendo announced that, as of September 30, it had sold 10.36 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles and 154.01 million Nintendo Switch consoles. In the last quarter, the ratio was 4.54 million to 0.91 million in terms of hardware sales, while software sales totaled 11.95 million to 37.16 million across the two platforms (for a total of 20.62 million to 1.45 billion).
The Switch 2 got off to such a good start that Nintendo revised its forecast. The previous target was to sell 15 million units by the end of March 2026; now, the target is 19 million. Game sales have also increased from 45 million to 48 million. Switch hardware sales expectations were reduced from 4.5 million to 4 million, but game sales were raised from 105 million to 125 million. Switch 2 sales have been so good that it has outperformed the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch over a similar period since their release.
Two first-party (internally developed) Switch 2 games have had their sales figures released: Mario Kart World has sold 9.57 million copies, and Donkey Kong Bananza has sold 3.49 million copies. The Switch’s top 10 list is longer, with recent sales data showing that 8.64 million copies of Super Mario Party Jamboree have been sold:
1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 69.56 million
2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 48.62 million
3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 36.93 million
4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 33.34 million
5. Super Mario Odyssey – 29.84 million
6. Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet – 27.61 million
7. Pokemon Sword / Pokemon Shield – 26.96 million
8. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – 22.15 million
9. Super Mario Party – 21.23 million
10. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 18.53 million
Now comes the best part: sales traditionally pick up at the end of the year.
