PlayStation Finally Confirms It: Massive PS Portal Update Lets You Stream and Play Your Own Library Today

At last, the open secret is official: PS Portal is getting a huge update packed with new features. The headline change, leaked days ago, lets PS Plus Premium members instantly buy and play a wide range of titles on PS Portal via cloud streaming.

It was clear PlayStation had a big PS Portal announcement in the wings. A few days back, players spotted a subtle PS Store tweak hinting at the option to “buy and play instantly via streaming” on Sony’s handheld with an active PS Plus Premium membership. The news spread fast across social media, with many cheering the added value. Now it’s confirmed: a massive update is rolling out that brings more than just direct PS5 streaming to PS Portal.

One clarification. Cloud Streaming already existed on PS Portal in beta, letting PS Plus Premium members access a selection of PS Plus catalog titles. In other words, it was limited to subscription games. Now, as the official PlayStation blog notes, the feature expands to your personal library. Better yet, it goes live today, November 5, for everyone playing on PS5 and PS Portal.

So which PS5 titles stream through the new option? The full list is on PlayStation’s site, but it essentially covers over 2,800 games in the console catalog. Sony says the launch lineup includes award winners such as Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yotei, Grand Theft Auto V, and Resident Evil 4.

“Cloud Streaming unlocks new ways to play: enjoy a game with a friend using your PS5 with a separate account, or stream your favorite game while someone watches a movie on the console.” “Cloud Streaming also makes it easier to enjoy PS5 games on the go – at a hotel, a coffee shop, a friend’s house, or anywhere with high-speed Wi-Fi – since you can keep playing even when your home PS5 is turned off or in use with another profile.”

More New Features for PS Portal

While library streaming is the star, PlayStation has also shipped a batch of quality-of-life tweaks. In short, nine additions touch audio, UI, search, and more.

  • Remote Play home screen – Shows all PS5-installed games playable from PS Portal. Remote Play does not require PS Plus Premium.
  • Cloud Streaming home screen – Dedicated menu for cloud play on PS Portal. Requires PS Plus Premium.
  • Search improvements – Look up any Cloud Streaming compatible game. If you lack access, a QR code points you to the PlayStation App or a browser.
  • 3D Audio compatibility – Select titles support it during Remote Play or Cloud Streaming with compatible devices.
  • Code lock – Extra protection for PS Portal access.
  • Network status screen – Quick connection quality check for smooth play.
  • In-game store – Buy add-ons and virtual currency without leaving your cloud session.
  • Accessibility options – New settings like a screen reader and adjustable text size.
  • Invitations – Send invites while cloud streaming and join multiplayer faster.

Community feedback is largely positive, with some wishing Cloud Streaming weren’t locked to the priciest PS Plus tier. Others wonder if pricing changes could follow. There’s no official word, and most players welcome the PS Portal upgrades, but future cloud gaming moves will be watched closely.
