A tidy treat for strategy diehards: you can claim Civilization VII’s Tides of Power DLC for free right now – as long as you already have the base game. The offer runs at no cost until January 5, 2026.
It’s no secret that Civilization VII stumbled out of the gate. Firaxis’ release disappointed a chunk of players and, even though the strategy title arrived back in February, the studio hasn’t fully won back fan trust. There’s still work to do to restore the series to its former glory, so the team is smoothing the path by gifting the Tides of Power collection to all owners.
This is a limited-time giveaway, but there’s plenty of runway: Tides of Power is free to claim now through January 5, 2026, on all platforms. After that, it becomes a paid add-on. The collection expands the core experience with new leaders, brand-new civilizations, and more.
Specifically, Tides of Power adds two leaders (Edward Teach, Sayyida al Hurra), four civilizations (Tonga, Pirate Republic, Ottomans, Iceland), and four wonders (Great Lighthouse, Nan Madol, Great Blue Hole, Mapu’a Vaea) to Civilization VII. As you’d expect, redemption is available only to players who own the base game.
Note that the content doesn’t land in a single drop: you can add Edward Teach, the Pirate Republic, and Tonga to the game right now via the free DLC, while the remaining items will arrive in a second pack, slated to launch sometime this December.
Civilization VII Still Hasn’t Won Back Player Trust
At launch, Civilization VII underwhelmed fans with mechanics and shifts that didn’t meet expectations. Since then, Firaxis has shipped requested tweaks and extra content to improve the experience. Even so, the game hasn’t fully convinced the community: at the time of writing, it sits at 47% “Mixed” on Steam based on over 36,000 user reviews. The team still needs to show many players why the latest entry deserves their time.
