BioShock 4 Finds Its Groove After a Decade of Turmoil – Take-Two Says It Will “Take the Franchise to the Next Level”

After years of turbulence and more than a decade in development, BioShock 4 appears to have hit its stride. Take-Two says the project is “on a great path” following internal changes, with the goal of taking the franchise to a higher tier.

It has been over twelve years since BioShock Infinite launched. Ken Levine’s franchise still resonates with fans, yet the community is eager for more. Despite BioShock 4 spending over ten years in the oven amid problems and reboots, some feared the narrative-driven action game might be canceled. The publisher’s stance suggests a stronger commitment than many expected.

Take-Two: BioShock 4 Is “On a Great Track”

In a recent Q&A session, as relayed by GamesRadar, Take-Two president Karl Slatoff said BioShock 4 is “on a great track” and that the company has “moved some pieces” to ensure it “will exceed expectations” and “take the franchise to the next level.” The key figure driving the effort is Rod Fergusson, who led Diablo for six years and now heads the BioShock franchise.

Fergusson was already pivotal on BioShock Infinite, and Slatoff now calls him an “incredible industry veteran.” Despite recent worries and negative headlines around BioShock 4, the title remains in production following leadership changes and more than 80 layoffs. Take-Two had planned for late 2026 or early 2027, but that timeline is no longer the case.

“BioShock is a very important franchise for us. It’s one of our biggest IPs, and we are very excited about the upcoming BioShock. We’ve made some organizational changes, we’ve reorganized a few things, and right now we feel the game is on track to deliver something that will exceed players’ expectations,” Slatoff said. While the remake of the first BioShock was canceled amid budget cuts, the BioShock movie appears to be taking shape.
