The Dev Team Behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance Wants to Be the New King of RPGs!

Warhorse Studios has set the bar extremely high, but this may be just what the team needs for inspiration.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was a huge step forward from the original. However, Warhorse Studios isn’t content with having created one of the best games of 2025. The studio is planning to claim the RPG throne for itself. At the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s Mysteria Ecclesiae DLC, communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling outlined the studio’s strategy. The team feels completely at home in the RPG genre. They want to establish themselves as the new kings of the RPG world.

As for how Warhorse intends to achieve this, Stolz-Zwilling believes the studio is already on the right track with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 combines detailed mission planning with a reactive, open world reminiscent of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion‘s novel experiences. According to Stolz-Zwilling, this approach will carry over to future Warhorse projects. They believe they have found their own recipe, and as they define it, their next project will follow in the same direction. They will undoubtedly be captivating RPGs.

Needless to say, Warhorse has tough competition. Larian is working on two new projects, and Final Fantasy–style newcomer Sandfall Interactive is currently the darling of the role-playing world thanks to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Bethesda, BioWare, and Obsidian have underperformed compared to their European counterparts in recent years, but we shouldn’t rule them out just yet.

Consider The Elder Scrolls VI and Mass Effect 5, which are currently in development. Also consider Obsidian’s incredible track record with its projects, as mentioned in today’s news. Then there’s CD Projekt RED, which recently hired one of the mission designers for Kingdom Come. Deliverance 2. It’s quite an accolade for Warhorse to be playing in the same league, although it also means that the designer will be working on The Witcher IV rather than Warhorse’s next project.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
