In recent days, a wave of supposed Far Cry 7 leaks has flooded social media around one of Ubisoft’s next big projects, even though the game itself still hasn’t been officially announced. So what can we really trust from the latest images and details, and where does the speculation start to run ahead of reality?
Numerous rumors are already swirling around the upcoming Far Cry 7, despite the fact that Ubisoft has yet to officially reveal the title. A recent leak showed off the first images, which are believed to be either concept art or early screenshots of locations from the next entry, and more alleged information has followed. According to these details, Far Cry 7 could effectively be split into two separate games: a single-player campaign called Blackbird and a rescue mission extraction-style shooter called Maverick. However, the leaks have caused significant confusion within the community. The images and information were reportedly pulled by data miners from XDefiant files. Insider Gaming, which is usually well informed, considers the leak to be genuine and claims to have additional material that matches the published screenshots exactly.
The images in question are said to come from an extraction map named Paradise Park, where wild animals can also attack the player. A different map is allegedly planned for the story-driven campaign. The main character is described as a white, bearded man in his 30s, and the game is rumored to be targeting a release sometime within the next two years. The original tweet in which AgaiinTx shared the screenshots on X (Twitter) has since been deleted. Further debate was sparked by a post from GameGPU, which mentioned a possible Alaskan setting that does not match the environments shown in the leaked images.
It is no surprise, then, that many fans have reacted with confusion. According to Insider Gaming, the leaked screenshots – depicting dense jungle, bridges and large billboards – actually come from the multiplayer component of Project Talisker. Project Talisker was reportedly the original internal codename for Far Cry 7, but that concept was later scrapped and replaced by the Blackbird and Maverick projects. It is therefore possible that the screenshots only show the Maverick extraction mode, while the Blackbird single-player campaign could take place on a completely different map, potentially in Alaska.
For now, speculation about Far Cry 7 should be treated with caution. It remains unclear whether the game will truly be split into two distinct experiences, and whether an extraction mode will definitely be part of the package. Some fans are already expressing doubts about that direction. On Bluesky, Andy Robinson, editor-in-chief at VGC, wrote that many of the details and assets in circulation are incorrect or come from canceled projects. Over on the ResetEra forums, the usually reliable leaker Shinobi602 added that this information is outdated and that a lot has changed since those materials were created.
